HOW TO: BLOWOUT (THE TENSION METHOD)

Hey, y’all! Today, I’m talking to you about how I do a blowout. I blow out my hair every time I need to dust it, which is about once every 2 months. Before I get into the process that I take to achieve this look, let’s talk about what a blowout is.

A blowout is simply when you blow-dry your hair. There are many reasons to do this: to straighten your hair, to trim/dust your hair, to prepare your hair for braids, or to just wear your hair out in the blown-out style. I use the tension method, which is pulling your hair taut (pulled tight) while blowing your hair dry. This allows your hair to stretch without putting a comb or brush through it. Whenever I use the tension method, my hair does not get as straight as it would if I were using a comb attachment.

Whenever I blowout my hair, I dust then put it in Bantu knots for a Bantu knot out. Once I wear that style out for about a week, I wash my hair to revert back to my curls.

PRODUCTS AND STYLING

The tools you’ll need to achieve this are a blow dryer, a comb, and heat protectant spray. The blow dryer that I use, and will see in the video, is really old. I believe I’ve had that dryer for over 6 years! It’s been so good to me that I just don’t have the heart to get rid of it. Until it breaks down on me, I’ll keep using it. I mean, if it ain’t broke why fix it?

The heat protectant spray that I’ve used since I went natural is Fantasia Heat Protector Straightening Spray that you can literally get from your local beauty supply store for under $10. I haven’t had any issues with heat damage with this product and I will continue to use it until otherwise.
